Terms of Service
Last updated:
1. Agreement
These terms apply when you use the website at lumencode.link (the web app included) or the Lumen Code apps we publish (together, “the service”). By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Open source
The Lumen Code source code, the protocol and the apps are published under the MIT License. Nothing in these terms limits what that licence allows you to do with the code. These terms cover the website we run and the apps we distribute.
3. Using the service
You may use Lumen Code to send and receive files and text that you have the right to share. You agree not to:
- use it to break the law or to infringe the rights of others;
- use it to spread malware or content that harms others;
- try to disrupt, overload or attack the website or the services it runs on.
4. Your content
Transfers go directly from one of your devices to another; we never receive, see or store what you transfer, and we cannot recover it. You are responsible for the content you send and receive.
5. Photosensitivity
While sending, the code flashes and changes colour up to 60 times a second. People who are sensitive to flashing light, for example with photosensitive epilepsy, should not look at it. You use the sender at your own risk.
6. Purchases
The iPhone and Android apps cost US$2.99, paid once, and are sold through the App Store and Google Play. Payment, refunds and family sharing are governed by the terms of the store you buy from; on the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies. Prices may change for future purchases. The web version stays free, and anyone may build the apps from the source code for free.
7. No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. A transfer can fail or be slow, depending on the screens, cameras and conditions; keep your own copy of anything important.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or use, arising from the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app concerned (US$2.99), or to nothing if you paid nothing. Some laws do not allow these limits; where they apply, your rights under them are not affected.
9. Changes and availability
We may change, suspend or end the website or the apps, and we may update these terms. We will post the new terms on this page with a new date; using the service after that means you accept them. The protocol is open and frozen, so files and apps you already have keep working with any implementation of it.
